Our Mission: The KIVA Institute, LLC provides quality services to promote capacity building for tribal nations and for federal and local agency service providers. It provides these services with the goal to enhance relationships between tribal nations and funding agencies; to assist tribal nations reach their goals of self-determination and to assist tribal nations in preserving and maintaining their sovereignty.
Our Vision: The KIVA Institute is a highly reputable, respectable and dynamic company that builds and maintains trust among its clients and associates. It is Indian Country's authority on the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Its legacy will be that its services will have a lasting impact in Indian Country and that it plays a key role in shaping positive federal Indian policy and leading tribes to achieving true self-determination.
Our Capabilities: KIVA's President and CEO is Benjamin Nuvamsa, former Chairman of the Hopi Tribe, who has over 30 years of executive management experience. Nuvamsa was instrumental in the development of federal Indian self-determination policy and Public Law 93-638 regulations and is regarded highly as the national expert on the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. He was instrumental in the development of the Bureau of Indian Affairs' Contract Support Cost Policy, the role of Awarding Officials and in the development of the Indian Self-Determination Act training programs. Nuvamsa worked on special projects with national and local tribal organizations, lectured on federal-tribal issues and testified on pending federal and state legislation. KIVA's staff and associates are equally and uniquely qualified to provide services to Indian Country having the required education and professional certifications and years of practical, hands-on experience in Indian Country.
